We tried the new Neon Obsessions Eyeshadow Palettes from seriously impressed

THE HYPE: Beauty and the beast

Huda Beauty is all about the eyes with the range of false lashes a firm favourite among beauty buffs worldwide and every one of the brand’s eyeshadow palettes have thus far proved instant successes. They redefined nude with the rose-tinted palette, and the gemstone-themed Obsessions palettes provide the perfect selection of punchy pigments and a variety of mesmerizing textures Beauty and the beast. Let’s hope the Neon Obsessions collection can carry on Huda’s winning streak.

I’m a sucker for natural makeup and seldom wear eyeshadow (and if I do, it’ll be a classic brown smoky eye), so neon shades are a pretty big departure from my norm. However muted by makeup collection, I know good pigments when I swatch them, and expect big things from Huda given that they’ve set the bar so high for themselves.

But don’t let this fool you – these pigments are powerful and pretty and, surprisingly, very wearable. The Neon Orange Obsessions and Neon Pink Obsessions were the clear winners on the pigment payoff front with a mixture of bold mattes and gorgeous glitters.

The Neon Green Obsessions, in my opinion, wasn’t quite there. The pigments were weaker than expected and it took a fair few swatches for them to even show up on my skin. To be fair, the shades might just not be right for my skin tone – the pale yellow undertones of the shadows are too similar to my own pale yellow undertones. I can imagine them looking fantastic on a darker tones, where the pigments can offer more of a contrast.

All in all, these palettes are playful and a great way to experiment in what’s turning into this season’s hottest make up trend – all things neon!

THE REVIEW : Beauty and the beast

The look of these palettes is exciting. The three different palettes come in an almost jelly-like, vibrant neon case in the corresponding colour to the shadows within. There’s a green palette, a pink palette and an orange palette, and each one contains nine matte and shimmery shadows.

The packaging is so bright, in fact, that when you open up the palette and see the shades within, they’re a bit of a disappointment. I mean, by comparison, they look positively dull.

I’m naturally brunette but have been highlighting my hair blonde for several years now and the lighter I go with my colour, the dryer and dryer it gets. I am also pretty much addicted to my hair straighteners and curling wand and try as I might to always use a heat protectant spray, it often slips my mind. I’m looking for a nourishing shampoo that deeply conditions my frazzled ends, keeps frizz at bay and gives my hair a glossy shine. Is that really too much to ask?

THE REVIEW

After spending many years as Lauren Conrad’s right hand woman, Kristin has clearly adopted LC’s knack for aesthetically-pleasing things; this entire range is practically begging to be a part of your next #shelfie.

The magic behind the products is that each one is formulated with Zip-Up Technology. A strengthening complex designed to ‘zip up’ split ends and smooth the appearance of damaged cuticles while helping to protect hair from environmental stressors and color fade.

I started with the shampoo, which had a slight banana fragrance. That Kristin describes as ‘the shampoo for pretty much anyone’.

“The thing I love about this formula is it gets your hair super clean. Also leaves it feeling moisturized and looking shiny,” she said. “It’s hard to find a shampoo, particularly a sulfate-free shampoo, that can do both so well.”

She’s right; I’ve noticed that a lot of new sulfate-free shampoos I’ve tried don’t lather up as much as I’d like. This was a welcome addition to my current haircare regime as it was super foamy. Also left my hair feeling thoroughly cleansed. I’d usually go in for a second shampoo but after the first with Kristin’s shampoo. I didn’t feel the need to. I then applied the conditioner, which was weightless and super softening.

As soon as I stepped out of the shower. My hair felt uber nourished – even though it was still soaking wet. As I blow-dried it, I noticed a visible difference in the condition of my hair; frizz was a distant memory. I barely needed to use my straighteners as it was so damn sleek and glossy.

THE VERDICT

I may not resemble LC (sobs). This is the best shampoo and conditioner I’ve tried in a really long time. My hair feels healthier and softer than ever and I can’t stop touching it. Welcome to the UK, Kristin.
